This was the first full render caricature I made as a gift, painted for my Dad.
Growing up basketball was a big deal in our family, we all played even Mum (pretty good on the 3 point line) and in the 90’s Basketball was more or less THE sport to play, especially in Perth.
The Perth Wildcats had a legendary team full of characters and back to back champions. In fact I distinctly remember back then there was a monthly basketball magazine that always had a caricature pinup of one of the Perth Wildcats (maybe that’s what started my interest in the art?).
Basketball in the 90’s however would not have seen it’s momentous rise in popularity if it weren’t for this one man – G.O.A.T (Greatest of All Time) aka his airness aka did he just do that? aka I wanna be like Mike aka greatest sportsman to play the game aka Michael Jordan.
What more can I say about Mr M.J that hasn’t already been said – other than maybe he wasn’t my favourite player back then (he was one of my favourites because back then there were alot of legends playing all at the same time – Magic, Isiah Thomas, Spudd Webb, Clyde the Glide, Bird – the list goes on – but my favourite was David Robinson simply because he played center and at the time so did I) – but I will tell you who was his number 1 fan – yep my Dad.
He was so much of a fan of his that there was not one room in the house that did not have a Michael Jordan poster (in fact now that I think about it, he probably had more pictures of Jordan hanging on the walls than of his own family – what the?).
Above the family piano we had the infamous WINGS poster:

Coming out of the bathroom we were greeted by this guy:
As soon as you walked into the house everyone was greeted by his Airness:
And the pride and joy was this iconic moment in time watching over our family meals every night – and my personal favourite:
Side Note: Dad would always make the effort to get them block mounted down at Wanneroo Markets rather than having them framed – yeah he loved his posters!
So with Dads birthday coming up back in 2009 I thought I would add to his poster collection with an MJ poster that nobody else would have (yeah pretty sure he has all the others still hanging up at his place ).
Needless to say it was well received and since then i’ve had a few people ask to get a copy, but as of this date he’s still the only one with this print…

Until Now!
Yes I will soon be selling limited copies of this print and if you want to get your hands on a copy please contact me so I can notify you of when they are ready to be printed and sold – or you can keep in the loop here on my Facebook page.
